Ground-Level Balance Beam
A zero-risk balance beam: a wooden board flat on the floor, a line of paper tape, or a low fallen log at the park. Walk it forwards, backwards, sideways, carrying a toy or balancing a beanbag on your head—then take turns inventing new ways to cross.

Step by step
- Lay a sturdy board flat on the floor (or make a line with paper strips, or find a low fallen log at the park).
- Clear the area around it. Go barefoot or wear flexible shoes.
- Walk across once to demonstrate: arms out for balance, looking straight ahead.
- Let your child cross at their own pace for a few rounds, standing close by without automatically holding their hand. Stepping off is not a fall: just step back on and keep going.
- Try backwards, sideways, carrying an object, or balancing a beanbag on your head.
- Take turns inventing custom challenges for each other, and finish on a successful run.
