Step by step

  1. Print the placemat with real-size outlines (plate, cup, spoon).
  2. Before the meal, put the placemat at your toddler's spot and name each drawn "home".
  3. Guide them once ("the cup goes on its drawing"), then let them place it themselves.
  4. During the meal, encourage them to put the cup back "in its home" after each sip, without stressing about it.
  5. At the end of the meal, invite them to put each item back in its spot before leaving the table.
  6. Start with just the cup, then add the other spots week after week.
