The Treasure Basket
A shallow basket filled with about 15 real everyday items from around the house: a wooden spoon, a metal ring, a sponge, a soft brush, a scrap of fabric. Sitting up, your baby picks, compares, mouths, and bangs objects to their heart's content, totally absorbed for surprisingly long stretches.

Step by step
- Fill a shallow basket with 12 to 15 safe, natural everyday objects (wooden spoon, metal ring, clean sponge, soft brush, scrap of fabric).
- Nothing sharp, too small, or detachable, because everything will go straight into their mouth.
- Place the basket right in front of your baby once they are sitting securely, during a calm moment with no other toys in sight.
- Don't hand them items or name things while they explore. Silence is what protects their deep focus.
- Your baby chooses, compares, sucks, and taps. The session can easily last 20 to 30 minutes.
- Wash the items afterward, and swap out 3 or 4 of them regularly to spark fresh curiosity.
