Step by step

  1. Print 8 to 10 A5 cards with high-contrast black-and-white patterns (checkerboards, circles, stripes).
  2. Pick a calm, alert moment with baby on their back or well supported in a semi-sitting position.
  3. Hold one card still, about 25–30 cm from their face, and let them focus on it.
  4. Move the card very slowly from left to right so their eyes can follow it.
  5. Switch cards when baby looks away; 3 to 5 minutes is plenty.
  6. Place a few cards around the play mat and by the changing table, swapping them out every week.
