Dice and Counter Games

One die, a bowl of counters, and a cup for each player: with every roll, take the exact number of counters shown on the die—not one more. The first cup to reach 15 wins, or team up to fill a big jar before the timer runs out.

Step by step

  1. Set out a die, a bowl of counters (or dried beans), and a cup for each player.
  2. Roll the die, check the dots, and grab EXACTLY that many counters.
  3. Roll, point to each dot as you count, then pick up the counters one by one out loud.
  4. Take turns playing; let your child count on their own and only step in if they ask for help.
  5. Recount together if there's any doubt, keeping things relaxed and pressure-free.
  6. Race to 15 counters, play cooperatively by filling a big jar before the sand timer runs out, or switch to a numbered die.
