Free movement on a big mat
A large firm mat, comfy clothes, and two or three simple toys within reach: baby does all the rest. They roll, pivot, reach out, and try new moves at their own pace while you sit back and watch. A wonderful daily habit.

Step by step
- Pick a time when baby is fed and well-rested, and clear a large, firm mat.
- Dress them in comfy clothes (bare feet are best) and lay them on their back right in the center of the mat.
- Place 2 or 3 simple toys within reach or just slightly to the side—nothing more.
- Sit nearby where they can see you, completely available without your phone: your calm presence gives them the safety to explore.
- Do not roll them over or hand them toys, even if they grunt with effort: that struggle is where the real learning happens. Quietly cheer on their efforts.
- Wrap up before they get overtired, talk about what they did ("you rolled around so much today!"), and transition to quiet time.
