Step by step

  1. Print 8 to 10 varied pictures (animals, faces, everyday objects) and tape them together into a long accordion strip.
  2. Stand the strip up in a zig-zag on the rug, with baby placed at one end.
  3. Crouch at the other end and call them over gently.
  4. Follow along as they crawl around the zig-zag, naming each picture they spot. If they knock it down, just stand it back up—no big deal, that is part of the fun.
  5. Hide a small toy behind one panel and let them discover it as they turn the corner.
  6. Rearrange the panels for each new playtime; for younger babies, tape the strip flat against the wall right at floor level.
