Step by step
- Warm up the room, wash your hands, and grab baby-safe oil and a soft towel. Pick a calm moment when your baby is content, like right after bath time.
- Show your open hands and tell them what is coming ("I'm going to massage your legs now, okay?"). Watch their reaction before you begin.
- Use slow, gentle strokes. Move from legs to arms, then their back, naming each spot as you go.
- Slow down or stop if baby shows any signs of fussiness, and linger on the spots they enjoy. A short massage is still a wonderful massage.
- Finish with quiet skin-to-skin snuggles in dim lighting, keeping things calm and peaceful.
- Offer this regularly around the same time of day, but never force it if baby is not in the mood.
