Step by step

  1. Stepping stool, apron, chopping board, kid-safe knife, and easy-to-prep ingredients right within reach.
  2. Crown your sous-chef of the day: having an official job brings instant pride.
  3. Wash the salad, slice a banana, spread butter, squeeze an orange.
  4. Show the movement once, in slow motion, then let them do it without stepping in to correct.
  5. Stay nearby and calmly remind them of the rules (the knife stays on the board), without hovering over every move.
  6. "The salad was made by our chef today!" Make sure their effort is seen and celebrated.
